Introduction
This paper offers a critical insight/perspective on Howard Zinn’s
article entitled “Speaking Truth to Power with Books”. How
a historian could use the ideology and
value of life to be able to uncover the truth about the history of the world. Strength, love for knowledge and
the hidden of facts that can make a person become the destroyer of silence. But
even so, sometimes we forget what should we look at what
is said by historians in their article that, like
weakness, something that is forgotten and
the fact that remains a mystery.
Summary
There are several basic points that Zinn wrote on Columbus, whom we
ridiculously perceive as the hero/the discoverer of America. First is, facts about the real history of
Christopher Columbus, is it true that Columbus was an America discoverer
or not? This is where
we discuss the problem of the truth about Columbus
and Amerika. Howard Zinn wrote about Christopher
Columbus commonly called touted as a hero, a
great inventor, devout reader of the Bible, and the American people refer to it as the inventor's life, but he (Howard Zinn)
says instead that Christopher Columbus was a murderer, torturer, kidnappers,
mutilator natives, hypocritical, greedy people
looking for gold, willing to kill and mutilate people's surprise.
The second is, facts about the
writings of Howard Zinn, that there are many facts about
his writings that able to reveal the real history of the world, expecially the history about
why Columbus should
looking for India, and then whether he managed to find the India or not? Columbus was raping the daughter of one
of the Spanish nobleman who was aged 13 years. Courts
cannot decide he should
be put to death. Occur in 1491 and a Pastor named Pastor
Perez mediate on
behalf of Columbus and Queen Isabella pleads with
which to fund Columbus,
if he managed to
be able to
convert the native Christians, and finally Queen Isabella sent him
on a mission to find a new continent (when
it was the main purpose India is looking for)
and with hopes,
Columbus cannot go back. Nevertheless because
the Indian spice islands
since the target of the medieval European explorers to discover a new

The third is, the weak of writings’s Howard Zinn in the article
entitled “Speaking Truth to Power with Books”, and what should be written
by Zinn in his article so
far. There are many aspects in his writings, who
Zinn forget, or he have deliberately omit
for his own benefit, or ignore it.
Critique
There are three points on Columbus that are neglected in Zinn’s
article. First is in
every article, Howard
Zinn never put or
absence of several references and footnotes. There are so many hard
facts that he
should give a note of where he got it, but the info is absent. Zinn just say at the end of his book that
he told all based
on teaching experience and
from books which he then list at the end of the
page. This makes
him ever not being taken
seriously in academic circles.
Then the second is, Zinn was
a legend for
young radicals. By
name only, people tend to pair with Noam Chomsky,
Michael Moore, and
John Raines from
Temple University. To mention rows critic, often looks like
a grumpy. Seen when he was unraveling the
history of American inventors is
Christopher Columbus, almost like there was
no gap to reveal
the bright side of a Christopher Columbus.
He just looked at
the Christopher Columbus of the next to the eye, and it is the only negative. Whereas
if we look at
the bright side of a Christopher Columbus,
then we will
find many positive side, that Christopher Columbus,
the Spanish explorer who sailed the oceans to India turned out to stray into America. This is precisely the failure of Europe
to know the new continent
and created a new
history whose influence we feel today.
Prof. Howard Zinn also seem to forget to
mention that Christopher Columbus had a noble
task in his journey, is, as he had promised
to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella
to spread the religion, as well as finding out about
the spices in the East Indies to improve the
quality of food in Europe. Which at that time the people of Europe in the Middle
Ages still consume food that tastes bland, not tasty - because of

while in the

The finally or the third is Zinn that does not even reveal
who the real an inventor of America. If
indeed he does not believe and have
said that Christopher Columbus was not the
inventor and American hero,
why he did not say and reveal that there has been a Muslim from China named Admiral
Zheng Ho, he's the one who first setting foot on the American mainland long before Columbus, and all
it has to have
accurate evidences. Is it because in the behind Zinn’s name there
is the name of
Jesus, so that he does not want to
mention it. A copy of the 600 year old map found
in a flea bookstore
threaten status of Columbus as the discoverer of America. Also be the
key to proving that people from
the Chinese Foreign continent was first
discovered. Claims evidence that Chinese
admiral mapped the Western Hemisphere (Western Hemisphere) more than 70
years before Columbus,

Menzies in his new book, "Who Discovered America?”
Which have launched ahead of the Columbus Day this year.
Even now many people are sure, Columbus has a
copy of the map of Cheng Ho when he sailed the oceans to America.
In the mid 10th
century, during the reign of the Umayyad Andalusian: Khalifah Abdurrahman III
(929-961M), Muslims from Africa sailed west from the harbor Delbra (Palos) in
Spain penetrate "the ocean is dark and foggy". After disappearing for
some time, they returned with a treasure of the country that are "unknown

education in Islamic schools.
Writings, diagrams and illustrations, this is the subject of
mathematics, history, geography,
astronomy and sea
navigation. Everything is written in Kufic Arabic
script from North Africa.
Columbus wrote that on Monday, October 21, 1492, while he was sailing near
Gibara on the
southeastern coast of Cuba,
Columbus watched the mosque on the summit of
a hill. Ruins of some mosques and minaret and
writing verses of the Qur'an had been found in
various places such
as Cuba, Mexico, Texas, and Nevada. (Thacher, John Boyd: Christopher Columbus,
New York 1950). If
we pay attention, this is a very big problem, where
the history-related artifacts should not be removed or ignored
it. But Prof. Howard
Zinn one has done
so, the thing that is so important that it
should not be neglected and
should not be ignored.
Conclution
There are two basic points that can be concluded from Zinn's
article, the first is that sometimes history
has a lot of mystery,
the mystery of which can blind the eyes of a person, or
it could open someone's
eyes of truth. Many facts that Howard Zinn
said in this
article including uncovering the
truth about the history of
Christopher Columbus is commonly referred to as an American hero
and inventor, but
for him (Howard Zinn)
Christopher Columbus is simply a murderer and
a butcher. And the second is a shocking reality of the
professor that there are still
many things that Zinn removed of his article,
as in an interview
conducted towards the end of his
life, Howard Zinn said, "The way that
really matters where the people are deceived by history is not the
lies that were told, but things are omitted
". By this
standard, Zinn deceive the
readers.
In the end, we can accept this partial
defense, but still
found the unsatisfactory interpretation. Perhaps we expect more honesty
shades of historians:
they should speak
truth to power, of course. Especially when they
imitate the narrator improper fashion, build
noble lie for a
living, we were disappointed.
